Safe TECH

Program Overview
SafeTech supports efforts to improve student learning by assisting districts and schools in creating and promoting emotionally and physically safe schools for students. SafeTech helps districts and schools address the federal CIPA mandate to educate students about Internet/digital safety and cyberbullying prevention. Achieving this goal is vital considering that for every hour a K-12 student is in school, they spend on average two hours interacting with digital media.
SafeTech is a cost-effective way to meet the need for a complete Internet safety and digital literacy program. SafeTech is designed and developed based on years of proven programs. It is needed to meet the federal mandate for child safety (CIPA), challenge the ubiquity of the Internet and digital media in children’s lives, and address the needs of schools for up-to-date, engaging curriculum in this area.

Innovative Approach
There are many existing resources that schools can use to meet the goal of ensuring K-12 students are safe while in school or digital/Internet environments. So what makes SafeTech so different and more effective?
- Students learn by doing and not by listening to adults or reading information. Many other Internet safety programs are simple presentations to students which are proven not to be effective.
- Schools must address the CIPA mandate. SafeTech is an effective, engaging way to do this.
- Producing digital/Internet PSAs fosters creativity and 21st Century Skills.
- Students relate to and learn more from resources created by their peers. They live in the cyberspace more than adults.
- Students take responsibility for their digital/Internet safety.
- A continual flow of student-created projects solves the problem of the continual changing world of technology and its effect on child safety.
