The February 2010 issue of Principal Leadership, the magazine of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is all about “Real Work”. There are dozens of wonderful articles on project-based learning, service learning, civic engagement, advocacy and more.
We are proud that the New York State Student Technology Leaders (NYSSTL) project is showcased in this issue in an article by Teh-yuan Wan, Stacy E. Ward, and Dennis Harper - The Power of Student Learning Through Leading.
“When students become the technology leaders in their schools, they help teachers and peers while learning about leadership.”
Read the The Power of Student Learning Through Leading article (PDF) or review the table of contents for the whole issue.

If you don’t get Creative Educator magazine, you should! Edited by Melinda Kolk, my friend for many many years (ever since she was at HyperStudio and I was at Knowledge Adventure), this is a wonderful print and online magazine published by Tech4Learning. Tech4Learning makes brilliant creativity software for K-12 schools and the magazine supports creativity and construction in the K-12 classroom.
I have an article in the current issue (Spring 2010) called Say the Change You Want to See, based on a blog post from a couple of months ago. The article is about how educators can plan for the changes they want, even those much-desired wishes that sometimes go unspoken.
There are lots of other great articles in the magazine, including:
And one more thing - it’s FREE! Even the print version is free, so choose whatever version works for you: online articles, full screen online flipbook, subscribe to receive a print version by mail, or PDF to print out and pass around.

Last week I mentioned the article What Makes a Good Project? Eight elements to great project design by Gary Stager in the Creative Educator magazine.
I hope you had a chance to look at the whole Creative Educator magazine, because it’s great. It’s published twice a year by Tech4Learning, publisher of creativity software for K-12 schools
The Creative Educator is fully available online, and in addition to the project article, this month’s issue has some great articles.
- Universal design - tales from a 4th grade classroom about using software that includes ALL students
- Bloom and Marzano for the 21st century
- Digital Storytelling
- Portfolios - and an interview with Helen Barrett, a pioneer and thought-leader of the digital portfolio movement
- Lessons and ideas from classroom teachers using creativity software to enhance learning
The articles are all online, and every issue can be downloaded as a PDF. But if you live in the U.S. there’s also a way to get the good ol’ fashioned paper version for FREE - just subscribe here.
