Last week over 70 GenYES students from all over Washington were part of the tech crew at NCCE, the Northwest Council of Computer Educators state conference. Students from grades 7-12 helped with video and audio production, technical support for attendees, geocaching events, and support for speakers. And one more thing. In between all this, the GenYES student crew from the Kent School District put together this video that was shown during the closing keynote. NCCE asked for a video that would capture the spirit of Seattle and the energy of the conference.
I think they did the job!

It’s great to see students allowed to make real contributions while simultaneously gaining some great experience! I bet it was very rewarding for them.
I read about a school once that completely replaced their technology staff with their computer science students. One student even took initiative and wrote a program for teachers to more easily submit tech problems! Here’s the article if anyone’s interested:
