Sylvia Martinez Named President of Generation YES
Olympia, Washington, Nov. 3, 2006 -Sylvia Martinez, an education technology industry veteran, has been named president of Generation YES (Youth and Educators Succeeding). Dr. Dennis Harper, founder and CEO of Generation YES continues to direct operations at the Olympia, Washington office, and to lead innovative global programs for children and teachers including the non-profit Generation Y foundation, education research, and directing the Liberia Renaissance Education Center project in Monrovia, Liberia.
Since joining Generation YES in 2002, Ms. Martinez led the development of TechYES - Student Technology Literacy Certification, Generation TECH - Student-led Tech Support and the recent redesign of the flagship program, GenYES, where students support teacher technology professional development in schools worldwide.

Sylvia Martinez spent the first half of her career as an electrical engineer, contributing to the development of the GPS navigation system. After taking a break to raise her three now college-age children, she became interested in creating educational software, earned a Masters degree in educational technology and worked at Davidson & Associates (now Knowledge Adventure) as an executive producer, managing educational game development. Sylvia designed Math.com, still one of the most popular websites for math help in the world and Educast, a pioneering Internet application for teachers that automatically downloaded news and lesson plans to their computers. Before joining Generation YES, Sylvia was VP of development for Encore Software, designing and developing computer and console games for the home and school market.
