1. I searched the Internet for a place to find a school. I went
to the Gen www.y archives and found that one student used epals.com
for their project.
2. I went on epals.com and read about the web site. I proposed
it to my partner-teacher and she liked it so we decided to use it.
3. I set up an account for myself and my partner-teacher set up
an account for herself as well.
4. I went to place on epals that allowes you to search for classrooms
in different countries. I searched for French classrooms and found
that there were many. My partner-teacher and I looked them over
and decided to go with a school that had the number of participants
that would match our class. There weren't any so we went for the
closest.
5. I wrote to the teacher and asked if he was interested in a keypals
project with our class. He wrote back once saying he was interested
but then I never heard from him again.
6. I then recieved an e-mail from another teacher in France because
when I had sent up my account, it gave me a profile and it told
that I was looking for a French classroom.
7. I told my partner-teacher about it and she decided to go for
it. She smiled.
8. I wrote to the teacher and she wrote back.
This was during Christmas Break.
9. I got back and set up monitered accounts for the students in
my partner-teacher's class.
10. Then, I took my partner-teacher's class into the computer lab
and using the Overhead LCD panel I showed them how to get into their
epals accounts.
11. They wrote their letters in French that they had prepared in
class and then sent them.
12. I received letters around the day we sent ours since the French
teacher didn't know that my students e-mail addresses so the letters
came through my partner-teacher's inbox.
13. I then forwarded these letters to my partner-teacher's students
accounts, so they would have a certain individual to write back
to. Hopefully this pattern will continue.
14. Everything is going well. My students are going to have a certain
student to write back to. The teacher from France and I decided
to have our students write a paragraph in French and in English
and she is going to set up seperate accounts for her students as
well. The teacher from France is very cooperperative and I believe
that this project is going to get better as time goes on. I have
even set up accounts for another class of my partner-teachers.
