Hi Student X,

Wow! Great job. Thanks for your proposal. I haven't seen such an organized and well done proposal in quite a while. I hope you are enjoying your time as a Gen www.Y student. You should realize that with this sort of project, you not only have an opportunity to impact the lives of the students at Centralia, but also in a school somewhere in France or perhaps Québec!

I have a few suggestions which I hope you will find helpful. Some, I already inserted in the body of your proposal. They are in all caps and enclosed in brackets.

Remember, you are not required to take any particular action based on my comments. Whether you do depends on you and your Gen www.Y teacher.

First, your title and objectives are very well stated. I have no suggestions for you.

Your materials list looks good, but I did add a Web address for another source for possible "KeyPals". Its probably good to have more than less information in this case. This is the hardest part of your project. That is, finding another classroom of students who would like to correspond with your French students at Centralia. Good luck with this.

One gentle reminder to have your spelling checked before you publish. Its important.

Your procedures are very well done. I would just suggest that you consider that you mightneed to have a structure for the KeyPal students for their correspondence. For instance, how often are they required to write? What sort of information must they include? Will you take a class picture and send it as an enclosure to the other class? (I would suppose to do this you would need some sort of parental permission.) Talk this over with your partner teacher and get some ideas. One way this may fail is if students don't keep up with their end of the correspondence.

One other thing is how you might match students up between the classes. Talk this over with your partner teacher as well.
I have no suggestions for your Assessments strategies. You have done very well!! Great job and good luck with finding a classroom with which to correspond.

Mrs. Whannell

 Conventions:

Proficient
The writing demonstrates control of technical writing conventions (e.g., punctuation, spelling, capitalization, grammar and usage) and uses them effectively to enhance communication. Minor errors, while perhaps noticeable, do not impede readibility. The writing is characterized by:
• control over conventions used, although a wide range is not demonstrated
• correct end-of-sentence punctuation; internal punctuation may sometimes be incorrect
• spelling that is usually correct, especially on common words
• correct capitalization; errors, if any, are minor
• occasional lapses in correct grammar and usage; problems are not severe enough to distort meaning or confuse the reader
• moderate need for editing.

 Organization:

Exemplary
The primary theme of the project is thoroughly supported by the information provided in each section of the proposal form. All sections of the form are completed with appropriate detail and accuracy. The proposal is characterized by:
• Project objectives which are fully and individually addressed by the procedural steps.
• EALRs (for WA State schools; otherwise, optional local standards) which accurately align with the objectives of the project.
• Procedural steps which demonstrate a high level of skill in task analysis.
• Assessment strategies which fully address each of the original objectives for the project.

 Ideas & Conventions

Strong
The proposal is clear, focused and interesting. A reader would have little trouble replicating the project from its written description. It demonstrates a clear understanding of the underlying principles of the Generation www.Y model. The successfully completed project will contribute to the enhanced use of technology in the school environment. The writing is characterized by:
• clarity, focus, and control
• clearly stated and appropriate objectives
• supporting, relevant, carefully selected details
• a thorough and balanced procedural description
• content that is well-suited to the audience and purpose (i.e., posting to the Gen www.Y Website).
