Generation Did

The Gen Did Curriculum consists of 4 modules. Depending upon the delivery system and amount of time allocated for the Gen Did course, any combination of these modules can be used to tailor the course to a school's specific needs.

Module 1: Leadership in the 21st Century
The class will use electronic research techniques to explore leadership qualities and styles on the Internet. The information found will be used to begin to form a definition of leadership. Pairs of students will then research the leadership qualities and styles of a specific world leader. The next activity will be to form teams and research the organizational styles of selected technology companies. This team research will allow the students to start to model the technology industry's team approach to product development.

Module 2: Personal Leadership Styles and Presentation Skills
The emphasis of this module will be to personalize student's knowledge of leadership and for students to develop their own unique leadership style. Students will informally assess themselves to identify their personal leadership styles. This module will also cover the multimedia presentation and design skills necessary to effectively use presentation software in a group setting.

Module 3: Community Leaders
Students will organize meetings with local leaders in the fields of Law/Justice, Education, Social/Health Services, Government and Business/Industry. The students will contact the various local leaders, create the questions to ask them, make all the physical arrangements for the local leaders to meet with the Gen Did class, participate in the meetings and process the results when the meetings are over. By participating in these meetings the students will understand the needs of the local community and be able to identify areas where they can volunteer to use their advanced technology skills on a community service project.

Module 4: Community Service
Students will identify and participate in a community service project that involves the use of technology skills. The Gen Did student will partner with community members in the same way the Gen www.Y students partner with classroom teachers. Students will learn advanced technology skills that are necessary to complete their community service project. Each student will complete an on line Gen Did Project Contract. This contract will document the community service project in much the same manner as the Gen www.Y Project Final Report documents the Gen www.Y project. The process and resources used to learn the technology skills necessary to complete the community service project are also documented in the Gen Did Project Contract.
