Project Title: Big Things in the Universe Project Description: The purpose of this project is to show viewers a glimpse of the universe in order that they become familiar and relate its size and magnitude. We will accomplish this on a basic level through photographs taken by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and brief summaries of each photograph. To do this we will use Microsoft PowerPoint. Evaluation & Objectives for Partner Teacher |
Objectives for Partner Teacher: |
To teach him new ways to research and present information to his students. Some ideas for this are:
1)To learn how to use PowerPoint and how to transfer photos onto slides. 2)To learn to use the internet to gather information to use in PowerPoint presentations and in general research. 3)To use the Infocus projecter as a teaching tool. |
Indicators for Partner Teacher: |
Mr. Slocum will show his learning by:
1) Using PowerPoint and transfering photos onto slides. 2) Using the Internet to gather information to use in PowerPoint presentations and in general research. 3) Using the Infocus projector as a teaching tool. |
Results for Partner Teacher: |
Mr. Slocum learned how to use:
1) how to use PowerPoint and how to transfer photos onto slides. 2)internet to gather information to use in PowerPoint presentations and in general research. 3)Infocus projecter as a teaching tool. |
Evaluation & Objectives for Partner Teacher's Students | |
Objectives for Partner Teacher's Class: |
|
To share a sample of images and descriptions of images from the Hubble Space Telescope in hopes that students will learn the following things:
1)What's out there 2)Where the pictures are coming from 3)How big the universe is 4)Seemingly similar space objects (black holes, galaxies, nebulas etc.) can look very different from each other. |

Results for Partner Teacher's Class: |
|
Mr. Slocum's class learned:
1)What's out there. 2)Where the pictures are coming from. 3)How big the universe is and how small we are. 4)Seemingly similar space objects (black holes, galaxies, nebulas etc.) can look very different from each other. |
Project Procedures |
In designing our Power Point Presentation on the Hubble Space Telescope we took the following steps:
1)Search for pictures and descriptions on HST Web sites. 2)Found pictures and descriptions of HST images that would most likely catch our interest and meet our learning priorities. 3)Insert pictures into Microsoft PowerPoint slideshow. 4)Edit and simplify descriptions of HST images. 5)Insert edited descriptions next to the pictures they described. |

Question: Will you please review my proposal? Consultant's Answer: Hello, Trevor! It's good to hear from you again! I hope your project is going well for you. I think you've made some good changes to your proposal. I especially like what you've written in the Teacher Objective & Indicator sections - it's perfect! Don't forget to include a computer in the Hardware section. I think you've done a great job here, Trevor. Good luck on the rest of your project - I'm looking forward to seeing your final report! - Jennifer Barrett Status: answered |

Question: Please review my proposal. Consultant's Answer: Hello, Trevor - Welcome to Generation www.Y! I hope you are enjoying your time in class so far! I am so sorry that it has taken us so long to respond to your question. We usually try to respond in 2-3 days, because I know its hard to wait! You have been very patient...please accept our sincere apologies. I think you have a fascinating project idea! I just have a few comments and suggestions that I hope will be helpful to you as you complete your project. First, your project description statement is well written! However, I suggest that you mention PowerPoint in that statement somewhere. For example, in your second sentence, We will accomplish this on a basic level through a PowerPoint presentation with photographs taken by... Your objective for the class is perfect! These are good learning goals for the students. Your objective for Mr. Slocum should probably be something different, relating to the technology skills you want him to learn. Maybe you can write that youd like him to learn more about PowerPoint presentations, like how to include photographs from the Internet in a PowerPoint presentation. For the indicators, think about how you will check to see if the objectives were learned. Will the students have a quiz or worksheet to complete on the information? Your procedures section is clear and complete! You have done some good thinking about the steps of your project! On your materials list, be sure to include computer with Internet connection under Hardware! Also, you will need Internet browser (like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) in the Software section. Your project context section is perfect - it gives just enough information on how this project will be used by Mr. Slocum! Im sure you are finding many great photograph resources on the Internet. Here are two HST resources from my files just in case you havent seen them: https://hubble.gsfc.nasa.gov/ https://www.ncc.com/misc/hubble_sites Well, Trevor - I wish you the best of luck as you complete your project! Feel free to write to me again if you have any more questions...Id be happy to help! - Jennifer Barrett Status: answered |
