Texas Gen Y Students Shine
TCEA 2005 Photo Diary
The Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) puts on a great annual conference in Austin Texas. The February 2005 meeting was bigger and better than ever!
Budget times are tough for schools. The news from Washington about a complete dismantling of all federal funding for educational technology is disappointing. In spite of this, we found the mood at the conference was upbeat and positive. It's great to know that Texas educators are looking to the future with a "can do" attitude. The great news is that students are more than willing to pitch in and share the passion for improving education.
In Texas, over 37 schools in 21 districts have shown that students are capable, willing and ready to step up and assist their schools attain technology integration goals. If you were in Austin, you may have met some of the Gen Y students in our booth. They were articulate, engaged and impressed the conference attendees to no end!
These students are no flukes; they represent thousands of students across the country who are eager to participate and support their school's technology plan.

Dr. Dennis Harper of Generation YES pitches in.
Janet G. and Kassie R., from La Vernia JHS, in La Vernia Texas came along with Ms. Nancy Poncik and Assistant Principal Ms. Cheryl Barron. They started out shy, but soon warmed up to talking to other Texas educators about how they help teachers in their school use technology.
Johnathan B. and Annakaren A. came back after a BBQ lunch eager to share their projects with more educators.
Travis S. and Ashley F. from La Vernia MS, in La Vernia Texas pitched in to share their stories. This conference attendee was amazed at the poise and confidence that these Gen Y students exhibited -- but we aren't surprised, they are Gen Y students!

Drs. Norma and David Thornburg stop by to chat with Sylvia Martinez of Generation YES. Dr. Thornburg is a noted futurist and a member of the Advisory Board that designed the new TechYES Student Technology Literacy materials. However, this photo shows him using ancient technology called a "pen".
