Project Title: The Geography of Western Europe: A Power Point Presentation! Project Description: The students will be learning new skills in PowerPoint that they may have never heard of. During these activities they will be answering questions based on Chapter 5, The Geography of Western Europe from the 6th grade level, Eastern Hemisphere, Social Studies text book.During this they'll be able to write the answers on their loose leaf paper. Afterwards, I will give them time to make their own one or two paged PowerPoint presentation(depending on how much time we have left over) that contain the answers to the questions I asked. This will probably be a two period project. Evaluation & Objectives for Partner Teacher |
Objectives for Partner Teacher: |
Mrs. Graves my partner teacher should learn a couple new, valuable skills in PowerPoint. |
Indicators for Partner Teacher: |
When the entire Generation Yes process is complete I will be able to tell if Mrs. Graves had achieved these expectations when she makes her own PowerPoint project. If it is more vivid and complicated than her earlier ones, it means I have done my job!
|
Results for Partner Teacher: |
I have not yet been able to see if my partner teacher has advanced her knowledge of PowerPoint for I haven't had a chance to really see what she could do with this software after my lesson. |
Evaluation & Objectives for Partner Teacher's Students | |
Objectives for Partner Teacher's Class: |
|
Mrs. Graves fourth period Social Studies class will be able to make a detailed PowerPoint presentation. In addition they will have more knowledge and skills in the geography of Western Europe. |
|
Indicators for Partner Teacher's Class: |
|
I will know if these objectives were completed when all of the student's projects are finished. We will look at how complex the project is and how many answers are correct . |
|
Results for Partner Teacher's Class: |
|
Mr. Graves's student's definitely reached the objectives we set. They actually did work at the highest level I could possibly imagine! All of their mini Powerpoint projects were done amazingly well and their understanding of Western Europe was very good! |
Project Procedures |
When Mrs. Graves' period 4 Social Studies class arrives on the first day of their Western Europe PowerPoint lesson I will help them to a functioning computer. When everyone is seated I'll explain that from the lesson I am about to teach, they should gain a better understanding of the PowerPoint Program and review their geographical skills. By then everyone will be ready to start my fun filled exciting lesson.
My presentation shows an opening slide first. It notifies everyone who was not listening to my objectives that they will be learning about and tested on the geography of Western Europe. My second slide shows a map with numbered countries, but not the countries' names. The third slide shows the same map with numbered bodies of water. The forth slide shows peninsulas and the fifth, mountain ranges. I will go through these slides quickly the first time through and explain to the students that shortly they will make a small slide listing the names of places with numbers on them. When the pupils are prepared to make their own mini PowerPoint projects I will get the second slide of my presentation to be projected onto the screen. For those who have never used PowerPoint (though I'm sure all the students have) I will guide them through the 40 minute period. Any difficulties will be cared for and all questions will be thoroughly answered. When the students seem to be finishing up I will walk around checking their answers for each number. If an answer is incorrect I will explain to them the correct answer until they have a better understanding of the subject. Those who have every single answer correct get a Twizzler or a DumDum. Spelling does not count! |

Project Context |
My Powerpoint presentation should help Mrs. Grave's period 4 class review and test their skills on Chapter 5 of their Western Hemisphere text book. This chapter and my project is mainly based on the geography of Western Europe. Though there may be a few questions slipping their way in about Western Europe's natural resources, schooling, and The Grand Tour.
Even though they will not need to know how to use PowerPoint for their social studies class, the students should be leaving the computer lab with new, helpful skills in this simple program. |
State Standards | |
c.)Use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of the geography of the independent world in which we live (local, national, and global) including the distribution of people, places, and the environmets over the earth's surface. |

Project Reflection | |
Positive Memories: |
|
The high point of my lesson and all of Gen Y was the moment when the whole room full of students stopped chatting and held their focus on me. There was a great feeling of achievment and control inside myself. I'd go back to this short period of time on any chance I had! |
|
Negative Memories: |
|
The whole Gen Y process was extremely exciting so the only aggravating time I can think of happened while I was presenting my progect. The few children in the back of the computer room couldn't see the Liquid Crystal Display Projector screen. They started complaining and the whole room went wild. I had lost control for the first time that period. I felt so annoyed and helpless. Eventually Mrs. Graves got them quiet. I was incredibly thankful and relieved! |
