This semester elective course is for students who have opted out of technology electives or "don't like computers." The course centers arou nd a series of modules that each emphasize an issue important to adolescent girls. Technology skills are interwoven into each module. In this 1999 "Intel Innovations in Teaching" award winning class, students have become empowered both in self esteem and technology. The confidence that students gain in this environment enables them to succeed in traditional technology classes. What makes Generation GIT unique... The Gen GIT teacher can choose from a variety of modules that are of interest to adolescent girls. Examples of these modules are : eating disorders, media influence, career exploration, women's self defense and dealing with grief and loss. Each module necessitates that the students will become proficient in a variety of technology skills. The Gen GIT web site allows students and teachers to share projects they have developed in these units of study. Each module will also have a forum and chat area where students throughout the world can discuss these issues that affect adolescent girls. |
