Kansas and Alabama Become First Generation
Y Affiliate States
Successful Technology Infusion Model Becomes
Self-Sustaining
Olympia, Wash. March 7, 2002 -- Generation YES, Inc. announced today
that programs in Kansas and Alabama have become affiliates of Generation
Y. As part of their affiliate status, they will be able to provide schools
statewide with access to the Generation Y website and the award-winning
suite of online technology project organizing and reporting tools.
Generation Y (Gen Y) is an innovative model of technology infusion that
combines student technology training with teacher professional development.
The model has been proven effective by scientific research and was named
as a rare "exemplary" program by a U.S. Department of Education expert
panel on educational technology.
In both Kansas and Alabama, Gen Y classes have run in a number of schools
throughout the states for the past three years. As the program matured,
a critical mass of students, teachers, and administrators recognized that
by incorporating the model of student empowerment and shared responsibility
for technology, the state could offer this program to many more schools.
"Generation YES supports the states of Kansas and Alabama moving forward
with this model." said Dennis Harper, CEO and founder of Generation YES.
"We believe that as more people see that this model can become self-sustaining,
the program will continue to be adopted by more schools, districts, and
states."
The Kansas program is called Kansas Student Technology Leaders (KSTL)
and the Alabama program is called Teens and Teachers Teaming for Technology
(T4). More information can be found on their web sites, respectively https://www.taken.org/kstl/
