Generation Y Starts Sixth Year with New Name
Research Shows Way to Effective, Sustainable Technology Infusion

Olympia, Wash. January 11, 2002 -- Generation YES, Inc. announced today that the award-winning Generation www.Y program has been renamed Generation Y. Generation Y is an innovative "reverse mentoring" model by which schools can realize the promise of technology. The program, which has been named as a rare "exemplary" program by the expert panel in technology of the US Department of Education, has been adopted in hundreds of schools in over 43 states.

"Even as we change the name, we still offer all the support and resources that have helped make Generation www.Y known throughout the world," said Generation YES CEO and Founder Dr. Dennis Harper. "The program continues to expand and grow, and the results keep improving as well. Changing the name is part of our evolution from a grant project to a full-fledged curriculum solution for schools."

Generation Y (Gen Y) began as a Technology Innovation Challenge Grant in the Olympia school district in Washington State in 1996. The vision was to include students in the effort to infuse technology into curriculum and schools. After 6 years, the program is not only still going strong in Olympia, but also has also spread to hundreds of schools throughout the country. The model was named"Generation www.Y" to signify the inclusion of a new generation in the technology infusion process in schools.

After the completion of the grant, Dr. Harper founded Generation YES, Inc. to continue to offer the Generation Y program to schools. Generation YES also offers other student centered technology programs for girls in technology, students caring for school infrastructure, and advanced technology projects.
