GenYES Express
April 2007
Hello from Monrovia, Liberia -

In three days, I will be attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Liberia Renaissance School. Two years ago, this day seemed impossible in a country just out of civil war and a generation of children lost. Now, with the first female head of state in Africa leading the way, the next generation of children will have the opportunity to rebuild their country.

I'm proud to be a small part of this moment in history.
Forward,
Dennis Harper

GenYES student blogs from behind the scenes
We got some exciting news a few weeks ago from Nick News with Linda Ellerbee. Camera crews were coming to do a profile on one of our veteran GenYES schools, Longfellow Middle School in Hill City, Kansas. As part of a series on Education in America, they wanted to showcase the positive partnerships between students and teachers.
Theresa R., an eighth grader at Longfellow, is providing behind-the-scenes blog posts and photos of the excitement going on at her school this week. Stay tuned!

Front page news

Greg Bishop, first year GenYES teacher and his GenYES students at Neal Dow Elementary School were featured on the front page of the Oroville Mercury Register. Neal Dow Elementary along with Shasta School, Little Chico Creek School, Emma Wilson School and Marigold School are all great examples of how strong leadership, good technology and student driven projects can create student motivation, real learning and fun!

Congrats Chico Schools, you make us proud!

Well, we did it! Our new blog has already covered topics ranging from GenYES student projects, cool links, handouts and podcasts from our conference sessions, free tools, and constructivist resources to the recent research report about educational software. (We even jumped into the OLPC debate!)

We hope this will enable us to share resources and news in a more timely way. Check it out and subscribe in your favorite blog reader today! (More about us and our blog)
