Students looked
at the paintings of contemporary artist Janet
Fish.
Part I The students used a view finder to focus on interesting sections of a still life. They created thumbnail sketches of 4 or 5 views, and sketched their best views on canvas.
Part II Students completed a series of exercises which required them to mix tints, shades, and complements of colors. They practiced blending acrylic paints on scrap paper. When their practice papers were approved they began painting on the canvas focusing on the many shades and colors they observed.
