Generation YES Express June 2010
|
|
|
|
Dear Sylvia,
| June - the payoff month!
For educators, looking at the growth and accomplishments of students is what makes a year's worth of hard work so rewarding. During the past few weeks, I have signed TechYES certificates for thousands of middle school students. Knowing that each signature represents the completion of two substantial projects using a variety of technologies makes a sore wrist feel better!
Forward...Dennis

Investing in Innovation
|
About 1,670 LEAs and non-profits submitted proposals to the U.S. Department of Education's Investing in Innovation (i3) program. The
Generation YES model is a major focus of four i3 proposals. Each
proposal looks to build on the student tech leader model while addressesing a different
need:
(1) Online and Blended Learning (2) Charter Schools (3) STEM
in Rural Schools (4) Computer Science Education.
Since Generation
YES began as Technology Innovation Challenge Grant in 1996, we hope
this model will be one of the funded grants and continue to expand its
innovative approach for providing technology integration and
literacy. Stay tuned!

TechYES technology literacy achievement data aligned to NETS-S |
Did you know you CAN assess technology literacy while students work on real projects? You don't have a give students a multiple choice test! The TechYES model of project-based technology literacy has always been aligned to the ISTE NETS-S. Now Generation YES has gone a step further by developing a system that provides a proficiency score for all the NETS-S performance indicators and standards. These scores are based on a research-based and validated performance-based assessment methodology. News from the Liberia Renaissance Education Complex
|
It's been a while since we've reported on the Liberia Renaissance Education Complex. This is one of the first new schools in Liberia since the end of the horrifying civil war that brought the country to its knees for decades. The country is healing and rebuilding now, and these youth are the future.. This picture captures the beautiful spirit of children around the world celebrating the last day of school. But the really good news is that they will be back in fall, learning that peace and education will empower them! Generation YES founder Dr. Dennis Harper helped found LREC in 2007 and now more than 600 students attend this 21st century school. Click for more photos. |
